The Annual Come and Take It Celebration returns to downtown Gonzales the first weekend in October: October 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, 2026. This beloved tradition draws more than 15,000 visitors to our historic town each year, thanks to the ongoing support of dedicated sponsors and volunteers. More than just a celebration of heritage, the event also serves as a major fundraising engine for local nonprofits, helping strengthen the very fabric of our community.
Texas welcomed a record 62 million travelers in 2024, generating $97.5 billion in visitor spending statewide. Heritage events, like ours, are a significant part of why people make the trip. According to the National Trust for Historic Preservation, 81% of U.S. travelers are cultural tourists, and heritage tourism is one of the fastest growing segments of the travel industry. The Come and Take It Celebration puts Gonzales squarely in that conversation every October.
